I'd like to tell you about a Champion bloke I first met when Leanne, (my wife), and I were doing a tour from Nairobi Kenya, to Kigali Rwanda way back in 2011, and since has become a great mate. Anyway, a definite highlight of that tour was spending two nights at the East African Mission Orphanage. After a friendly game of soccer with the kids, we were invited to join them for dinner, and back at camp, after dinner we were joined by Ralph Spinks, who, with his wife May, established EAMO in 1997, to offer "A New Home, And A Better Life" to the orphaned and abandoned children of Nakuru, a city 170 km northwest of Nairobi, Kenya. Ralph shared with our group the EAMO story, and also answered some other questions from Leanne and I, after which we were able to pray with him.
Since 1997 Ralph and May have seen literally hundreds of kids come through their gates showing them the love of Christ in action. EAMO provides 24/7 supervision from local carers, accommodation, clothing, three meals a day, health care, and an education to the children from Kindergarten to currently, year 8 primary school. At one time, the EAMO Academy also provided a high school education, with four of the now, young adults, who came through the EAMO Academy, gaining University Degrees, and another three receiving Trade Diploma's through the local TAFE.
Since our initial visit in 2011, Leanne and I have had the joy of returning as volunteers in 2012, '14, '16, and most recently last year, 2018, and over that time have established strong relationships with Ralph and May, their team of carers, and especially the champion kids, as well as seeing first hand the work being done, and the difference being made in the lives of these most vulnerable children,
The East African Mission Orphanage is a not for profit organisation, registered as a charity with the Kenyan Government, and has the support of the Australian High Commission in Nairobi. As such it relies on donations to fund the many ongoing projects, and especially on SPONSORSHIP. Just $1.50 per day will provide three meals a day, accommodation, clothing, healthcare, and an education to a child at EAMO. In return you will receive regular up dates on your sponsored child, and if you would like your sponsorship to be tax deductible, this can be arranged. Finally, if you would like to visit your sponsored child, you would be more than welcome to stay at the adjoining Ziwa Bush Lodge.
What I'm trying to do is, to spread the word about EAMO through the Shed Happens network, and if anyone would like me to come and do a talk about the Orphanage, I'd be happy to do so, depending on my work roster! Also, if any of you tradies want to organize a team to go over and do some work, I could probably arrange that with Ralph, and in return, he might be able to arrange a game drive for you, and a good price for your accommodation!
Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and I'll look forward to hearing from you.
God bless Champion
