Trouble... and breakdowns of the mechanical variety

'Call on Me in the day of trouble; I will rescue you, and you shall honour and glorify Me," says the Lord. so writes the psalmist in Psalms chapter 50, verse 15.

It's harvest time on our broadacre dryland cropping property. We try to make sure that our machinery is serviced and ready for the job at hand, but as they say, it doesn't break down in the shed.

One Thursday afternoon I had just delivered a load of field peas to the silos and as I was pulling into our driveway off of…

A Harvest Revelation

As a dad, and a farmer, I'm sometimes working very long days. When I'm working away from home on one of our other blocks, the kids can sometimes go days without seeing me when I leave early in the morning and get back late at night.

When reflecting on how to put the…

Jesus Wept

I've been reading through the gospel of John and have come to what is probably the shortest verse in the Bible. Chapter 11, verse 35. Jesus wept. The Word, the Son of God, the Creator of the universe and all that is in it, the King of kings and Lord of lords, wept.

It's harvest time. We have just finished harvesting barley on one block and have started moving our machinery to the next one 5 kays down a dirt road. With the weather being warm, the local wildlife is on the move. Lizards of all shapes and sizes are out and about and as someone who sees the beauty in God's creation I try to miss as many of them as possible.

As I was moving a field bin this morning watching a very active sleepy lizard, it occurred to me that the safest thing for him to do… Continue

Wife Karen tries to get me gardening, and after 46 years she is slowly seeing me improve.

I am pretty involved with church, working as  pastor there 4 days per week (voluntary) for now. Also have 10 grand kids, not super close by but try to spend time with them.  Try to give my bride some time, and like to get out on the motor bike when I can.  We walk by the lake whatever mornings we can.  ope that helps. Blessings
