I was on a run this morning listening to the book of Nehemiah. The audio came to chapter 3 and all I could hear was the phrase "next to". It repeated over 20 times!
As they rebuilt the wall, there was someone "next to" them on the one side, and "next to" them on the other side. That means they were also supporting others, themselves being "next to" two other families or people groups.
This is community. We are not designed to do life alone. Life together.
Jesus says, "I will build my church." He uses you and me in this ... together, next to others.
So the questions Jesus asked me to email all of you with as I was jogging are these:
** Who is next to you? Who have you invited to speak into your life, to ask you how you're doing, to hold you accountable, to bless you, to keep you growing, to stop the drift, to see us becoming mature?
** Who are you next to? You can't be next to the whole world, but there are some you can be next to. Who are you to encourage, spur on, admonish, rebuke if necessary, bless, and cheer? Send them a text, email them, phone, visit, facebook them (wall to wall, not in public), pray for them, but don't let them slip away.
Its that simple ... next to ...
