Hope your New Year is starting to get into "top gear".
Some time ago, I was just chilling when my gaze was drawn to the scars on my left leg; it's the one that always seems to cop it. There was one from a barb wire fence, another from a chainsaw, & more from the surgeon's knife. As I looked at each scar, I could vividly recall each incident & the associated pain but, of course, I couldn't actually FEEL the pain in my conscious mind; they were just memories.
And so it is for all our physical wounds. Our amazing bodies heal at the sight of the wound by forming scar tissue, a tough and fibrous joining, so it won't open & bleed again, & the surrounding flesh stays soft & supple.
It started me thinking about the scars of the heart, our emotional wounds. It dawned on me that they are the complete opposite to our physical scars. They don't heal forming a scar never to open again, never to feel the pain vividly again. It only takes a "trigger event" for that scar to burst open & the pain to be as real as the "first cut".
So what DOES the body do to protect us. I believe it hardens the heart (the flesh) around the "scar" with bitterness, unforgiveness, anger, resentment, revenge & so on. They are our defences, but they aren't going to heal that "scar". Neither will any surgeon's knife. It's the Divine healer, Jesus Christ, that has the answer.
