I was driving home from church today trying to soak up the pastor's message, feeling good & positive when, suddenly, a random thought triggered a negative memory & I could sense my peace of mind beginning to fade. I quickly realised (this time at least) that I was being set up for an ambush from the enemy; the one who seeks to steal, kill & destroy. [John 10:10] Not on my watch, Satan, not on your Nelly!
My strategy - ".... So humble yourselves before God. Resist (rebuke) the devil, and he will flee from you," [James 4:7] & "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive EVERY thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Cor 10:5
I must confess to not knowing a great deal about grease traps, however, I DO KNOW a blocked grease trap can produce one of the most putrid, rancid odours of this world; worse than a dead animal's rotting carcass. Our memory can be like a blocked grease trap if we (our minds) allow it to be "blocked" by negative emotions/feelings from past experiences, such as bitterness, unforgiveness, anger & resentment to name a few. I don't think I'm a Lone Ranger in this experience. I'm sure you have had a perfectly "good day" go sour before your eyes & you've been left wondering - What the? - where'd that stinking thinking come from?
Now, lads, I don't profess to be any kind of expert but a Scripture that is one of my fav's for recalling to turn my dial back to the positive is - "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." [Phillipians 4:8] Try it! Commit it to memory, or if that's not your gift, write it on something to keep in your pocket for "those times" then think on those things in your life or Jesus life, & then keep doing it (persist), don't give up.
Remember - Jesus defeated Satan in the wilderness by the WORD of God ONLY. "No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord," [Prov 21:30 ] & that INCLUDES the devil.
